Julia and I
1st Place - 22nd Annual Fashion Exposé (2018) - African American Textile Society
My inspiration for this collection was the designer Valentino. My goal was to emulate some of his signature features like oversized collars and godet structures. To mirror this I used chiffon, crepe de chine, and solid silk as well as silk faille. As a designer, I focus on creating a comfortable, well-finished, and ready-to-wear clothing. Each piece in this collection is a loose-fitting garment that is suitable for different body shapes and ages. I named this collection Julia and I, after my 20-year-old daughter, because most of my designs can be adapted to my age group or hers with different fabrics. For each dressy classic look in my collection, I also created a version in white cotton, embellished with lace ribbons.
